Experimental Analysis of an Innovative Double Strap Joint Splicing of GFRP Bars by NSM Methods for Strengthening RC Beams

The double strap joint splicing of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars for concrete (RC) beams strengthening, applying the near surface mounting (NSM) method, has been proposed in paper. method consists application supplementary GFRP symmetrically positioned cut-off zone main reinforcement. performances this have experimentally tested most unfavorable case reinforcement maximal bending moment zones. During experiment, varied parameter overlapping length bars, taking values 20∅ and 40∅. Evaluation technique is done comparing experimental results with behavior strengthened by without cut-off, but splicing. Experimental research encompassed analysis strength, stiffness, ductility, crack pattern, strains steel, concrete, failure modes beams. It shown that bar, strengthening effectivity decreases 39%, bypassing using 40∅ long, decreased 23%, 14% respectively, compared to beam bar cut-off. Using extrapolation, it 60∅ provided strength equivalent result additional significant increase serviceability RC
